Our history:

60 years of hair & beauty innovation

What began as a single corner store in New Orleans, USA, in 1964,
has grown into one of the world's largest hair & beauty suppliers. 

 

Humble beginnings

In the same era that Vidal Sassoon revolutionised hairstyling, the Beatles topped the charts, and Mary Quant’s mini-skirts took over fashion, Sally Beauty Holdings opened its doors. That first store in New Orleans set the foundation for a business that would change how hair and beauty professionals shop. 

Over the next six decades, we built a reputation for providing salons, professionals, and beauty lovers with the best tools and products. Our stores have become a go-to for those seeking professional-grade hair color, salon-quality styling tools, and cutting-edge beauty innovations.

Today, Sally Europe is part of SBH, which encompasses five businesses serving trade professionals and retail customers. Our network spans seven markets in Europe—the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Spain—with 235 stores in the UK alone and over 4,000 stores worldwide.  

With over 800 brands and 80,000+ products, we connect professionals and beauty enthusiasts to high-quality, trusted, and innovative solutions. Across Europe, we serve over 420,000 trade customers and nearly a million retail customers, helping them bring their creativity and expertise to life. 


Our Diversity & Inclusion policy

Key Milestones

1964  Sally Beauty Holdings (SBH) opens its first store in New Orleans, USA. 

1987  We made our first international move, entering the UK and Ireland markets and celebrating our 500th store worldwide. 

2006  We expanded with the acquisition of Salon Success, a UK-based distributor of hair products 

2007  We acquired Salon Services and Beauty Express, strengthening our presence in Europe and our offering to professionals. 

2008  We took a major step by acquiring Pro Duo, a distributor of professional hair and beauty products based in Ghent, Belgium. At the time, Pro Duo operated over 190 stores across France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, and Spain. 

2009  We acquired Sinelco International BVBA, a wholesale distributor in Belgium, which served customers across 35 countries. 

2011  We acquired the Floral Group in the Netherlands, further cementing our European presence. 

2013  Major milestone rached in the UK and Ireland with the opening of our three-story flagship store on Oxford Street in London. This marked an important retail achievement for us.  

2017  We celebrated the global achievement of 5,000 stores, reaffirming our commitment to in-person retail experiences. Sally Europe was officially formed, merging our UK and Ireland and Continental Europe operations under one umbrella.  Since then, we’ve worked hard to streamline operations, simplify the business, and bring together the excellence each unit contributed 

2018  Sally Europe merged Beauty Express into the Salon Services brand, unifying our offerings into one destination  

2021  We followed a similar approach with Salon Success, consolidating it into Salon Services. However, given its rich history, we’ve kept the Salon Success brand for our Direct Sales division,  

2023  Launch of the first Professional Hair & Beauty Awards in the UK and France.This was a huge moment for Sally Europe, reinforcing our position as industry leaders. 

2024  60 years of Sally Beauty and Salon Services, and 25 years of Pro Duo 

2025  Transfer ownership of Pro Duo Spain to Pluricosmetica but acquired Flair Hair & Beauty in Republic of Ireland increasing our presence in that growing market.
